Tiny Paintings on Show with MOPA at the Contemporary Austin
Solo Shows are always exciting but this show is extra special because of this inventive reworking of the typical gallery system. Founded in 2004 by artist Robert Jackson Harrington, the Museum of Pocket Art (MoPA) began with an idea that everyone should carry with them a small artwork in a pocket to enrich their day and share with others. MoPA displays works of art created to fit in the pocket, usually around the size of a business card, in galleries selected to best frame the work, which range from wallets to mobile devices. MoPA shows at the opening of other art exhibits, or “leeches” the reception. At the reception, a MoPA representative approaches people individually and asks if they would like to visit the museum, and then shares the works on display.

A great review of our exhibit by Glasstire.com and Hannah Dean. Take a few moments to read it. I am especially proud of this show since I was the curator/organizer and it was our first show since the pandemic started in Spring 2020 and interrupted my previous show plans. It is nice to follow through with something and make it even better in the end.
“Zoe Spiliotis’s hyper-bright symmetrical paintings adorn several walls in the gallery. Arresting in their opticals, these works hold moons, cranes, and water, as if depicting lost places of lore. Spiliotis gets at painting essentialism, in the manner of Mark Rothko or Hilma af Klint.”

Life in the Time in collaboration with BorderSenses is delighted to present a publication of amazing art and creating writings of a selected group of talented individuals from our border region (Cd. Juarez/ El Paso/Las Cruces). This project was supported by a generous grant from El Paso Community College and we appreciate the collaboration.
May 2020- ALONE/TOGETHER was an online series of performative programs associated with the exhibition Labor: Motherhood & Art in 2020 at the University Art Museum (UAM).
ALONE/TOGETHER is a curated series of prerecorded online programs that took place on Saturdays during the Covid-19 pandemic, created by the UAM in collaboration with artists and programming partners from Labor: Motherhood & Art in 2020 (Labor). The series was fully online, utilizing an array of social media and online apps the global community had become even more familiar with in this new world of social distancing.
Many of these projects developed from existing programs that were slated to take place in the museum exhibition, including live performances, pre-recorded video, and experimental community programs led by artists in our community.
